Virtual Reality as a Technology has the potential & ability to transform the world around us. Itâs one of those few technological factors that is been in making and research for a long time. But still somehow, the technology hasnât reached itâs full potential even after years of research and development.
There are a lot of other reasons behind this status quo. The supplementary factors & technological advancements with respect to optics, display resolution & computing power makes up the composition of Virtual Reality reaching itâs pinnacle.
Often, Virtual Reality is called up as a fad or buzz, wherein a lot of itâs technological counterparts and other sectors get more attention and glitz than the noteworthy mention they deserve. For reasons best known to the Industry trends or their virality factor, some form factors are blown out of proportion.
Virtual Reality on the other hand is long into making. Initially publicized and personified by Jaron Lanier in the late 1980âs. The available technology and the computational limits back then were rudimentary and the technologists back then couldnât achieve their vision with VR. Yet, the audacity of those researchers literally paved way for the VR, that it is today.
There are only a handful of technologies and computational factors go through a long research phase and years of product development cycle before becoming mainstream. Virtual Reality is one such façade, that has been going through several decades of R&D from various intellectual minds across the Globe.
VR became the most talked about technological factor in 2016â2018 period. There were a lot of new device launches by the Tech Giants contributing significantly to the rise of the Industry. But again, we always have naysayers and critics joining the band wagon to contradict any populist opinion and progressive acts.
Virtual Reality was soon declared a âFADâ, the moment a few of these big branded VR devices failed. On the contrary, they were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Virtual Reality for mainstream consumer market, beyond games is still a few years away. We have this tenet, once a big company fails with a device the entire technology is being called out for, rather than taking a stance on if itâs the product or the technology in its core is at fault.
There are a lot of use cases and sectors, where VR is the way forward and is also a life saver. You canât look down upon a technology just because a couple of bigwigs failed at it. Gone are those days, when a single entity makes or breaks a product or technology. We are living in a Globally connected world, which has expanded the competitive landscape for companies and has also ushered in an era of innovation as the playbook of sorts.
Agreed, there are challenges with the technology in terms of user adoption on a large scale and compelling use case for the everyday user. Also, there are a certain factors responsible with respect to the long term usage like Motion Sickness, Optical Illusion and Latency etc. Like any other technology, they are certain factors the Industry on the whole is still working on and are into continuous development. There are a lot of Business Entities and Evangelists who are working laboriously towards addressing these action items. This is a chicken and egg problem, wherein without mass user adoption we wonât see significant advancements in terms of resources and research and at the same time without addressing some of these action items, it will be challenging to have exponential user growth other than the early technology adopters.
Nevertheless, there are entities working towards addressing all these including startups like us, who want this technology to solve some of pressing real life challenges of Human community and be part of a greater good.
Virtual Reality is one such Technology which is going to transform the way we live, commute, interact and compute. The collective rendition of Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality & Mixed Reality are going to be the next evolution of Technology.
Spatial Computing is going to be âTHE way to Computing and digital interactionâ.
